Learning how to put yourself in your partner’s shoes will create a big shift in your relationship. Not only will it help you to anticipate and avoid problems, but it will also help your spouse to feel understood and cherished.
This is not a skill that comes naturally to all of us, so it may take some practice. Fortunately, the more mindful you are of it, the more natural it becomes. I encourage you to pay attention to how your actions could affect your partner (both positively and negatively), and challenge yourself to be aware of these things on a regular basis.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you know your partner better than anyone, so you know how you can surprise him or her! Empathy plays a huge role in this and this brings me to my next point.
Keep things feeling fresh for a successful marriage
As I was saying above, it’s all too easy to fall into the routine. You settle into your relationship and subconsciously, you start to feel like you don’t need to go out of your way to woo your significant other anymore.
You’re already married to each other so it’s all good, right? Well, no, actually. When things start to feel too routine or lackluster in a relationship, it becomes very easy for a person to start to feel neglected or even bored. So it’s up to both of you to think outside of the box and surprise each other! Think about what kind of new things you two can share, what new places you can check out together, dedicate time to each other and continue to date! You can still have so much fun together if you make the effort to do so!
Tips for a successful marriage that will keep you happy together
Remember, communication, empathy and innovation… But there is one more little gem that I would like to share with you, and this is something that often gets neglected. When you want to know how to have a successful marriage, you have to remember to cultivate your personal life.
Your spouse cannot be the center of your universe because that can lead to a serious imbalance. You should both be cultivating your personal lives and then when you spend time together, you will have even more to share. On top of that, you’ll be building your own sense of happiness and well being. The more you do the things that bring you joy, the better you will be feeling about your life, and this is something that plays a huge role in a happy and healthy marriage.
