Marriage that last

Will marriage last: An expert’s advice

In today’s society, so many people have developed a negative view of marriage and it’s not surprising when you see the divorce rate. It breaks my heart to see this though because it doesn’t have to be that way. We aren’t given proper education about love and relationships, and how to make them thrive. Hollywood and Disney movies just tell us that everything is going to be peachy forever and we don’t learn how to protect our relationships against the test of time.

So yes, there are many divorces, but when a person comes to me and asks, “Will marriage last,” I always tell them that there are certain things that you can do to ensure that your marriage WILL last!

Like anything of value in our lives, marriages require maintenance. In today’s article, I will be going over the answer to this question but more importantly, how to set your marriage up for success!

Will my marriage last: The truth

I often work with clients who are about to get married or are recently married and they seem to always ask, “Will my marriage last forever?” My response is always the same.

Because this question is so common, I felt it warranted its very own article. To answer the question, marriage will last as long as you make it last!

If you assume that it’s never going to require work or patience, the marriage will most certainly suffer, but not to worry. That just means that if you’re able to put in the effort, you’ll be able to reap the benefits.

Marriage is a commitment to one another, but it’s also a commitment to making your marriage last. Your relationship is not going to thrive if you just sit around on the couch watching Netflix, waiting for your marriage to magically thrive.

It’s going to require that you invest your time in energy in maintaining a sense of freshness, proper communication, shared goals for the future, commitment, and a sense of innovation.

All too often I see people let their marriages succumb to the routine and become monotonous and predictable. Sadly, this is one of the biggest things that pull two people apart.

So if you’re wondering, “Will marriage last,” remember that you and your partner have to continue to attract one another. That means that the flirtation and the fun shouldn’t fizzle away. Contrary to what many people think, the magic won’t disappear if you don’t let it!

You know your partner better than anyone so you know what would surprise them and what would make them happy, so make sure that you challenge yourself to continually do this for them.

Successful marriage tips: Everything you need to know!

Will my marriage last? Yes, IF…

Marriage will last if you continue to work on it and make it better. Think about it like this: Commitment to marriage (like anything!) is a choice and the more meticulous you are about this, the more results you will see.

It’s like working out. You’re not going to transform your body into your dream body by sitting at home reading magazines. So, I think it’s great that you’re doing some research and reading up on the topic to find out the answer to “Will the marriage last,” but there is nothing better than taking action!

And remember, making a marriage thrive isn’t about making grandiose gestures all the time. It’s about the little things and doing them on a regular basis. Think at least one thing that you can do to make your partner smile every single day. Make an effort to go out of your way to make him or her feel special. Look up new things to do in your town so that you can always have something new to look forward to together.

Marriages will become routine if you don’t make an effort to keep things feeling fresh, but this is such an easy fix. There are so many activities that you can share as a couple and with your friends!

Which brings me to my next point…

An important element of a successful marriage is when two people are able to maintain their personal lives as well. It’s dangerously easy to lose track of neglect your own passions, hobbies, goals, friends and family when you get into a serious relationship but this can actually undermine the foundation of your relationship!

Making sure that you feel a sense of self-confidence and pride in your personal life is extremely important in a happy marriage. Pride and confidence are directly linked to a sense of accomplishment, so make sure that you actively work on living a life that you are proud of.
